Your kids go where?
I’ve been asked if it’s true that my kids (ages 6 and 8) attend school on Bainbridge Island — it’s true, and I’d like to share why.
Our decision isn’t about concern with public education or Suquamish Elementary (our home school, which we love and fully support). It’s about family logistics.
As a public school administrator, I’m out the door before 5 a.m. and home after 6 p.m., often later with evening events. My husband runs a family construction business on Bainbridge and needs to be with his crews early in the morning. He, his family, and our childcare network are based there, where he grew up.
We are fortunate that there is an incredible, Independent, K-5 school right next to his office that offers early start times and before-/after-school care that make our days possible. It is a community built on kindness, inclusion, empathy, critical thinking, and service — values that mirror our own and the ones I champion in public education.
We’re proud future Cavaliers and Buccaneers ⚓️ (Class of ’35 and Class of ’37!) — deeply connected to Kingston and North Kitsap and excited for our kids to grow up in the same schools and community I’m honored to serve.
I’ve dedicated my career to public education for all kids — ensuring that every child, in every classroom, has access to belonging, creativity, and opportunity. I’ve dedicated my time to breaking down systemic barriers that my own children will unlikely face. That no child should face. As much as they wish they saw me more, my family understands my passion and commitment, and I hope I am modeling for them the blessings of engaging in a career as a public servant.
Thank you for asking with curiosity and care. Conversations like this strengthen our schools and our community.
💛 Joy. Love. Community.
